STITCH to STOP
Domestic sex trafficking of our youth
Did you know…
- ABC’s Nightline recently reported the I-5 corridor between Seattle and Portland has one of the highest instances of sex trafficking in the county?
- An increasing number of high school and even junior high school students are caught up in prostitution, with some of them even being pimped by their own classmates?
- An estimated 150,000 children are being trafficked right here in the U.S.; many are American children being pulled into the industry?
- Child prostitution is a VERY profitable industry that experts say will soon surpass the illegal drug and arms trade?
How YOU can help
AWARE, a Washington state-based 501(c)3 charity, is working with civic and law enforcement groups to launch sex trafficking education efforts in our schools. STITCH to STOP is an informal group who will be assisting AWARE’s efforts selling hand-knit headbands and donating 100 percent of the proceeds to AWARE. We need your yarn and your knitting skills!
DONATE: Please donate yarn! Whether a brand new skein or leftover remnants, we will make use of it
Simply contact me or drop your yarn at Linda’s Knit and Stitch.
KNIT: Individually or as a group, pick up the pattern at Linda’s and begin making these headbands. If you prefer, just send an email request for the pattern to Rhonda Shepard at shepardrhonda1@gmail.com.
The headbands will be sold at college campuses and other events in Washington and Oregon beginning fall 2011
